“Although I had heard of Butterflies through word of mouth, my knowledge prior to becoming a volunteer in the service was very basic. Through my friends experience of attending Butterflies with her son after his Dad died I knew that it was an effective and positive counselling service. I was drawn to its volunteer program because I had a desire to learn new skills counselling children, and to be apart of a fantastic team of people. It has a great community of counsellors, and service providers that are all there to help children through difficult times. I am so grateful for the opportunity, all the training and the amazing support I have received from Butterflies.
Now a year on I know there is so much more to this vital service along with bereavement Butterflies is there for children dealing with separation and loss through a family break down, and also the many forms of domestic abuse, we run helpful support groups in each of the main criteria’s and also offer 1-1 counselling. When you see a lot of the children leaving with smiles on their faces it really leaves you with a sense of job satisfaction. I would recommend anyone who can volunteer their time to do so at Butterflies.”
